Research Dossier

-The competition I would like to enter my short script into is a competition called Blue Cat Screenplay Competition. This competition is passionate to develop and discover the unknown screenwriters who in other cases may not have a chance to make it. Each writer that enters the Blue Cat Competition are provided with two written analysis ensuring each entry is reviewed by two readers alongside additional support with screenwriters along the way. This competition is American therefore any admission fees or prizes will be in dollars. The rules and guidelines of the Blue Cat Competition are that each feature screenplay must be between 75 and 125 pages long and a short screenplay must be between 5 and 40 pages long but there is no limit on how many screenplays you may submit in one go. Here is the link for the competition: http://www.bluecatscreenplay.com/
Below is my extract of a script analysed.

Below you can see i have cropped the parts of the Being Human series 1 episode 1 script to show the parts which show good development of the character, good use of dialogue and good use of scene direction.
Good Development of Character- Inner Presence:

Below is the first of two ten minute shorts I have watched which i really enjoyed watching.
This 10 minute short was to begin with quite confused as to what was going on in this piece but as i watched more I started to really understand the underline story. I enjoyed watching this short because it consists of some really good shots and it's storyline is quite interesting. This short doesn't include much dialogue but I feel that's what makes it unique.

Below is the second of two ten minute shorts I have watched which I really enjoyed watching.

This 10 minute short had an extremely powerful introduction. I began expecting this to be a family problem but as the piece evolved and progressed I found out it was at school. This piece is really touching and in a way calls out for the kids that need it. Compared to the other short the dialogue isnt as minimal infact theres quite a bit more dialogue and this is part of the reason why I like this piece quite a lot.

Audience Research
I sent out a small questionnaire to my teen target audience. Below are the screenshots for each question and the results.
What is your gender?

 What is your age?

What genre do you enjoy watching most?

Have you seen any chucky movies?

If so, what was your opinion? If not, would you be interested in watching a short film about a scary doll?

Would you be interested in the idea of a doll coming to life and becoming evil?

The majority of the location for my piece is a big three story house and below is a mood board of how I picture the location.
My main character is a young girl called Mia Adams and she has a doll. Both are quite lonely looking characters and below is a mood board of the way I picture my both of my characters to look.
One existing media text that highly influenced my idea was a film called 'Coraline'. This film is about 'An adventurous girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327597/) . The way the adventurous girl got to the world was by a doll which was an identical copy of the girl herself. The idea of having a doll in the story causing a series of events to happen really stood out to me so I took the doll idea and adapted it. The location of the movie is an old big house which has been a huge part of my idea. This house is really part of the horror because it being so big causes questions.
