Silent Witness- Choices- Part 1
In the opening episode of this piece a drive by shooting has happened at the local club as a turf war between drug gangs steps up it's game. The team are called in to investigate and are soon joined by a set of detectives from Operation Trident. The vehicle used for the drive by is soon traced to an abandoned industrial unit, where a decomposing corpse is found which then turns out to be the body of a young female drug addict. As investigation continues the case proves not quite as clear as first expected when they discover that someone fired back. In the opening scene, we see that the local club owner is sat in his car with his girlfriend when he pulls out an engagement ring and asks her to marry him. The pair then get out of the car when Helen, Modest's girlfriend walks over to the club to her best friend, Simone Campbell to show off the ring. Just as the best friends get excited a car drives by and shoots hitting Helen and two other club goers in the que. The characters involved in the opening scene are the club owner Ainsley Modest, his girlfriend Helen Roach, her best friend Simone Campbell, the two door men Terry Barnard and Curtis and the long line of young club goers. The elements I can see which are considered or i would consider indicative of a single camera production is that it seems to have been filmed on a low budget and also it's a Crime drama which is a typical single camera production genre. The format is a typical single camera production format which is a series and the camera actions are tight camera shots and there all shot in real locations. Theres one scene in which the lighting is quite provative of a single camera production which is when we see the young boys, Wayne, friend Chris who is an ex army man in a wheelchair with Harry Cunnigham, who is one of the team working on the bodies. The lighting is half dark on his face and half light. The editing for this piece must have taken quite a while which is typical of a single camera production and a series.
